Design and Build Quality
Potensic ATOM SE Foldable Drone Design Review
The Potensic ATOM SE follows the increasingly popular foldable drone design that prioritizes portability without sacrificing functionality. Weighing less than 249 grams, it is compact enough to fit into a jacket pocket or small travel bag.
The drone feels surprisingly sturdy considering its lightweight construction. Potensic has utilized durable materials that can handle typical beginner mistakes and minor bumps during landing. The foldable arms lock securely into position, giving the drone a solid feel during flight.
One standout feature is the included shoulder carrying bag in the Fly More Combo. This makes transportation extremely convenient for travelers, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts.
The brushless motors are another major advantage. Compared to brushed motors commonly found on budget drones, brushless motors provide:
- Longer lifespan
- Greater efficiency
- Better wind resistance
- Quieter operation
- More stable flight
The ATOM SE’s Level-5 wind resistance is particularly impressive for a sub-250g drone. During outdoor flights, it remains stable in moderate wind conditions where many entry-level drones would struggle.
The remote controller is ergonomic and beginner-friendly. Phone connectivity is simple thanks to the included Lightning, USB-C, and Micro USB cables.
Overall, the build quality exceeds expectations for its price category and competes well against more expensive beginner drones.
Camera Performance
4K EIS Camera Performance on the Potensic ATOM SE
For most buyers searching for the best beginner drone with a camera, image quality is one of the most important considerations.
The Potensic ATOM SE features a 1/3-inch Sony CMOS sensor capable of capturing:
- 12MP still photos
- 4K video at 30fps
- Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS)
The Sony sensor helps produce sharp images with natural color reproduction. Daylight photography performs particularly well, delivering vibrant landscapes and detailed aerial shots suitable for social media and personal projects.
One of the standout features is Potensic’s ShakeVanish stabilization technology. While it doesn’t use a mechanical gimbal, the EIS system effectively reduces vibrations and minor movements, creating smoother footage than many competing drones in this price range.
The 118-degree field of view provides wide cinematic perspectives, making it ideal for:
- Travel videos
- Beach footage
- Hiking adventures
- Real estate previews
- Outdoor sports recording
The camera can tilt from +20° to -90°, giving pilots flexibility when framing shots.
Video quality remains sharp at 4K resolution, especially in good lighting conditions. Footage appears clean and detailed enough for YouTube uploads and content creation.
Compared to similarly priced beginner drones, the ATOM SE consistently delivers above-average image quality. While it won’t replace professional drones with 3-axis gimbals, it offers excellent value for casual creators and first-time pilots.

Flight Performance
Potensic ATOM SE Flight Performance Review
Flight performance is where the Potensic ATOM SE truly shines.
The Fly More Combo includes three intelligent batteries, delivering a combined flight time of approximately 93 minutes. This is significantly more than many competing drones that offer only 20–30 minutes per session.
The 60W parallel charging hub is another huge advantage. Instead of charging batteries individually, users can recharge all three batteries simultaneously in approximately 1.5 hours.
The SurgeFly flight control system includes:
- Beginner Mode
- Video Mode
- Normal Mode
- Sport Mode
Beginner Mode limits speed and flight distance, helping new pilots learn safely.
Sport Mode unlocks the drone’s full performance, reaching speeds up to 16m/s. Acceleration is responsive, making the drone surprisingly fun for experienced hobbyists.
GPS positioning is reliable and contributes significantly to flight stability. Hovering remains accurate even in moderately windy conditions.
The 4KM FPV transmission range provides plenty of room for exploration while maintaining a strong video signal.
Flight controls feel smooth and predictable, making the learning curve remarkably beginner-friendly.
